Understanding Addiction is a unique and interactive online training program for anyone who works with substance use or addiction.
It is designed to better equip you with the tools and resources that are most effective when interacting with people who face challenges with substance use and addiction.
There are eight lessons that can be completed at your own pace over four months, with supplementary readings, downloadable resources, and a facilitated forum. In these lessons, you’ll take an active role in promoting healthy relationships and building supportive environments. Topics include the factors behind addiction and control, the dynamics of helping people change their behaviors, and what to do in difficult situations.
A Certificate of Completion is available, by request, upon completion of the course.
This program was developed by the Canadian Mental Health Association BC Division in partnership with the BC Non-Profit Housing Association, BC Government and Service Employees’ Union, Centre for Addictions Research BC (University of Victoria), 7th Floor Media (Simon Fraser University), and Walden Media Group.
