Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a two-day course that teaches participants the skills required to help a person who is developing a mental health problem, experiencing a mental health crisis, or a worsening of their mental health. Just like physical first aid is provided until medical treatment can be obtained, MHFA is given until appropriate support is found or until the crisis is resolved. The MHFA course is appropriate for anyone – no prior experience required.
Mental Health First Aid skills can be used to:
- Engage confidently where a person may be a danger to themselves or others.
- Provide help to prevent a mental health problem from developing into a more serious state.
- Promote the recovery of good mental health.
- Provide comfort to a person experiencing a mental health problem.
Mental Health First Aid is being offered at only $40/participant thanks to the generosity of our partners: The Village Initiative, SD62, the Esquimalt Military Family Resource Centre and the Vancouver Island Regional Library – Sooke Branch.
