Suicide Prevention Awareness & Community Education (SPACE) Clinical Intervention Training is an interactive skills-based workshop that provides participants with clinical intervention skills aimed at audiences who have responsibilities including risk assessment, safety planning, and other clinical aspects.
Participants will learn how to:
- Recognize signs that someone may be having thoughts of suicide,
- Engage in supportive and compassionate conversations,
- Connect individuals to appropriate resources using the SPACE Helping Model,
- Assess risk using a person-centred framework, and
- Create meaningful safety plans to support clients.
This workshop includes facilitated discussions and opportunities to put skills into practice. This workshop will have breaks throughout the day as well as a longer lunch break at around the mid-point.
This training is intended for individuals that interact with the public or with clients in roles that are responsible for risk assessment and/or safety planning. Please note, this training may not be suited for individuals who are looking for foundational suicide response skills (see: SPACE Community Intervention).
